The group invited Jean King to give a talk on how she fulfilled one of her lifetime dreams, that of seeing Mount Everest.
Jean started by telling the group about how she had always wanted to see Mount Everest after she read the book South Col by Wilfred Noyce when she was 10 years old.
Jean then gave a pictorial and quirky account of her trip into Nepal and the trials and tribulations their group had to endure on the way to the Everest Base Camp.

Jeans first view of Lukla airport.
It all started with a scary landing at Lukla airport. (A few days later there was a fatal crash) To see how scary it is, see a plane landing at Lukla Airport on YouTube here .
Jean conquered her fear of heights with the help of a friend and this came in very useful during the trip as there were many rope bridges to cross on the way to the base camp. The longest being approximately ¼ of a mile.
There was sadness during the trip as one of their party had to return to Katmandu because of altitude sickness.
Eventually the group got to the viewing area they had aimed for and it was here that Jean and three others from the group finally decided to go to the Everest Base Camp when they woke up at 05:30.
She has come away from the experience with many happy memories and the knowledge that she has raised a lot of money for her four chosen charities ...
