The group invited Mr Barry Thompson to give a talk entitled “The Camera Never Lies Does It?” to the group.
Barry gave a brief history of photography from its invention to the present day. Using photographs from various famous photographers he showed how the original pioneers were limited by the time needed to capture an image and that as the process was refined and developed the time dropped dramatically.
With this reduced time per shot, the imagination of photographers could come into its own and even how youngsters could fool some of the cleverest people of their age, see Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths.
Finishing his talk Barry showed how the modern digital darkroom can be used to ‘enhance’ or ‘distort’ any image to what you want it to be.
